Foundation
The Vision Begins
Peace University was conceived by a consortium of educators, faith leaders, and human rights advocates who recognized the urgent need for an institution of higher learning dedicated to the integration of scholarship, spiritual formation, and peacebuilding. Incorporated in Virginia as a religious nonstock corporation, the University was granted exempt status by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).
Program Launch
First Academic Programs
The University launched its initial suite of Certificate, Diploma, and undergraduate programs, rooted in the conviction that education should be accessible to learners across the globe. From the outset, flexible pathways — including Research, Experience-based credit, Challenge Exams, and Coursework — distinguished Peace University from traditional residential institutions.
Expansion
Graduate & Global Programs
With a growing international faculty and a student body spanning continents, Peace University expanded its offerings to include Master's degrees and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs. The Scribes Ministerial Studies track and the Center of Excellence (COE) were established to serve specialized communities of learners.

Virginia SCHEV Status
Peace University operates as a religious institution under Virginia law and is exempt by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) from state-level authorization requirements. Students and prospective employers may verify the University's exempt status through the SCHEV office in Richmond, Virginia.
International Recognition
Peace University has cultivated formal and collaborative relationships with institutions of higher learning, research centers, NGOs, and governmental bodies across North America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Admission & Entry Requirements
Begin your journey at Peace University with a simple and transparent admission process. Program-specific admission requirements are detailed within each program listing under Academic Programs.
General Entrance Requirements
- ✓ Submit an online application with all required documents.
- ✓ High school diploma or GED required for Diploma, Associate, and Bachelor's programs.
- ✓ Bachelor's degree required for Postgraduate Diploma and Master's programs.
- ✓ Master's degree required for Doctoral (PhD) programs, with demonstrated research capacity.
- ✓ No prerequisite required for Certificate programs.
- ✓ Competency tests, writing samples, or interviews may be required when applicable.
- ✓ English proficiency: students from non-English-medium backgrounds may be required to demonstrate competence via approved testing or coursework.

Financial Policies
Refund & Withdrawal Policy
Guidelines regarding withdrawals, refunds, and enrollment termination.
Enrollment Cancellation
Students may cancel the Enrollment Agreement without penalty by notifying the school in writing within three business days after signing.
Withdrawal & Refunds
After the cancellation period, refunds are determined according to the Enrollment Agreement and applicable State of Virginia policies.
Registration Fee
The school may retain a registration fee up to $200 after the three-business-day cancellation period.
School Termination
Termination may occur due to non-payment, misconduct, or failure to achieve required academic progress.
Program Withdrawal
Peace University reserves the right to withdraw programs. In such cases, all paid amounts will be refunded.
Special Circumstances
Students unable to complete studies due to serious circumstances may receive a satisfactory settlement from the school.
Any excess payments made by a student who withdraws or discontinues studies will be refunded within 45 days from the date of notification. Withdrawal requests must be submitted in writing to the Dean.
Credit Transfer & Prior Learning Policy
Peace University acknowledges that meaningful learning occurs in many contexts beyond the traditional classroom. Our Credit Transfer and Prior Learning Assessment policy enables students to earn academic credit through multiple recognized pathways.
Transfer of Academic Credit
- Credits from regionally or internationally accredited institutions are evaluated individually.
- A minimum grade of C (2.0) is typically required for transfer consideration.
- Official transcripts and course descriptions must be submitted for evaluation.
- Transfer credit is applied only toward requirements of the student's declared program.
- Residency requirement: a minimum of 25% of program credits must be completed through Peace University.
Prior Learning & Experience
- Professional work experience, military training, vocational certifications, trade qualifications, and independent learning may be evaluated for credit.
- Students must submit a documented portfolio, evidence of achievement, and a reflective learning narrative.
- Challenge examinations may be used to demonstrate subject mastery.
- Faculty evaluators assess the depth and equivalence of learning to university-level standards.
Fees: A $50 evaluation fee applies to transfer credit assessments and prior learning portfolio reviews. Evaluations are conducted within 14 business days of receipt of a complete submission.

GPA Formula: Total Quality Points Earned ÷ Total Units of Credit Attempted = Grade Point Average.
Satisfactory Progress
- ✓ Minimum 60% overall performance on assessments.
- ✓ Maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.0 throughout the program.
- ✓ More than two D grades require subject repetition.
Academic Probation
Students whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 will be placed on academic probation for the following term. During probation, students are required to meet regularly with their Academic Advisor and may have their course load adjusted until satisfactory standing is restored.
Failed Grades
An "F" grade requires a meeting with the instructor or Dean to develop a corrective academic plan.
Academic Support
Students on probation are encouraged to seek assistance from faculty and academic staff to improve performance.
Suspension & Dismissal
Students failing to meet satisfactory progress after two consecutive terms of probation may face suspension or termination. Appeals may be submitted to the Dean within two weeks.
Readmission
Students dismissed for academic or attendance reasons may reapply with Dean approval after a minimum of six months.

Student Responsibilities

Academic Integrity
Dishonesty — including plagiarism, cheating, fabrication, or facilitating misconduct — may result in failing grades, program dismissal, or revocation of credentials.
Attendance
Online learners must maintain regular communication with faculty, meet deadlines, and demonstrate academic responsibility consistent with their learning pathway.
Leave of Absence
Students requesting a break from studies must obtain prior written approval from the Dean. Up to two consecutive terms may be granted under qualifying circumstances.
Re-Entrance
Former students may request readmission within one year through Dean approval, interview, and completion of any outstanding requirements.

Grievance & Complaint Procedure
Peace University is committed to resolving all student concerns fairly, confidentially, and expeditiously. Students are encouraged to address concerns early and informally before initiating a formal grievance.
Four-Step Resolution Process
Direct Dialogue
The student first discusses the concern directly with the instructor, staff member, or administrator involved. A good-faith attempt at informal resolution is required before advancing.
Written Complaint
If the concern remains unresolved, the student submits a detailed written complaint to the Dean's Office, including relevant dates, facts, and evidence. Submission is via email or certified mail.
Formal Review
The Dean or designated Grievance Committee reviews the complaint, interviews all relevant parties, and renders a written decision within 21 business days.
Appeal to Chancellor
If not satisfied, the student may submit a written appeal to the Chancellor within 14 calendar days. The Chancellor's review is the final internal step.
Confidentiality & Non-Retaliation
All grievance proceedings are treated as confidential to the extent permitted by law. Peace University strictly prohibits any form of retaliation against a student for filing a grievance or participating in an investigation.

Academic Freedom Statement
Peace University is dedicated to the principle of academic freedom in teaching, research, publication, and dialogue. Faculty members have the right to inquire, discover, communicate, and challenge ideas in pursuit of knowledge and understanding, free from institutional censorship or reprisal.
Students possess the corresponding freedom to learn — to ask difficult questions, to explore controversial subjects, and to form independent judgments. These freedoms carry corresponding responsibilities: honesty, rigor, mutual respect, and fidelity to the scholarly vocation.
Academic freedom does not require neutrality; rather, it requires the University to be a space in which reasoned disagreement, even passionate disagreement, is welcomed and protected — and where truth is pursued in community.

Prior Learning Assessment
Earn credit for professional experience, certifications, and prior study through portfolio evaluation ($50 evaluation fee).
Dual Enrollment
High school students may enroll in select college-level courses through partner schools and the PASS system.

Partner-institution exchange programs enabling cross-cultural study and joint research across 40+ global partners.
Completion Standards
Graduation Requirements
Minimum GPA
Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher across all attempted credits. Some programs require 2.5+ for graduation honors.
Credit Completion
All required courses, capstone projects, internships, and research components must be completed with a passing grade (60%+).
Financial Clearance
All tuition, fees, and outstanding balances must be settled. $200 graduation and diploma processing fee applies.
Application for Graduation
Submit graduation application at least 90 days before the intended conferral date through the Registrar's office.
Honors Designation
Cum Laude (3.5+), Magna Cum Laude (3.7+), Summa Cum Laude (3.9+) based on final cumulative GPA at conferral.
Commencement
Annual virtual and in-person commencement ceremonies held each May and December. Diplomas mailed within 6–8 weeks of conferral.
